WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) released the following statement after reviewing the classified legal justification for the likely illegal boat strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean.
“After recently reviewing the legal explanation for the recent boat strikes, I am MORE convinced than ever that the Administration needs to come to Congress to justify these strikes and request authorization. As an Army JAG and former member of the National Security Council, I know the majority of the justification can and should be released to the public. It’s highly unusual for the entire justification to be withheld by the White House. This lack of transparency demonstrates that the justification is on very shaky legal ground,” said Vindman.
Vindman continued, “Drug smugglers and illegal cartel activity must be stopped and perpetrators need to be held accountable – illegal strikes are not the way to achieve this. My message to President Trump: come to Congress and seek authorization now.”
