Vindman Celebrates Independence Day, Says America Must Continue to Live up to it’s Promise

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) released the following statement ahead of Independence Day.

“On Independence Day, we celebrate the founding ideals that built our country and the brave Americans who have fought to defend them for nearly 250 years. As an Army veteran, I carry those values with me every day, and I know the cost of preserving them.

“I came to this country with my family, fleeing an oppressive communist regime in Soviet Ukraine and in search of what we ultimately achieved – the American Dream. My Dad, now 93, taught me that hard work, determination, and integrity makes a man worthy of everything this country has given us. I continue to repay the greatest country in the world by serving you. It is an honor to do so.

“This year, our celebration comes at a time when the American Dream is under threat — not just from adversaries abroad, but from dangerous decisions here at home. Just days ago, extreme Washington Republicans passed a cruel bill pushed by the corrupt President Trump. The economy is struggling, and costs are out of control, but Republicans are dead set on threatening to strip the health care of 17 million Americans, including more than 300,000 Virginians, and slash food assistance for families who rely on SNAP. These policies are not in line with the values we honor on the Fourth of July and do not bring the American Dream within reach for more neighbors.

“I’m proud to stand with my colleagues, with residents of Virginia’s Seventh District, and with all those fighting to ensure that America continues to live up to its promises. I will never back down in the name of freedom.”
