Vindman Upholds Will of the People and Peaceful Transfer of Power

Jan 6, 2025 | Congress, Press Releases

WASHINGTON – Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today released the following statement after Congress certified the results of the 2024 presidential election, upholding the will of the people.

“Today, we upheld democracy, respected the will of the people, and ensured a peaceful transfer of power. This should always be the standard for elections in the United States and around the world. I am proud to be part of the group of responsible legislators who abide by our Constitutional obligations and take seriously the peaceful transfer of power. As a member of Congress, I will always stand by these values and against attacks on our Constitution and democratic institutions.

“Unfortunately, January 6th will forever be remembered as the day our democracy came under attack, and I condemn in the strongest terms those who desecrated the Capitol grounds and the people who incited them on this day in 2020. Yet, thanks to the courage of the U.S. Capitol Police, Congressmen, and Senators who did not fold to the pressures of a violent mob, our democratic institutions prevailed.

“With the 2024 election results peacefully certified, I look forward to getting to work championing bipartisan solutions to reduce costs, protect our national security, and help every family achieve the American Dream.”

The Constitution requires the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to convene in a joint session in order to count the electoral votes of each state and Washington, D.C. certifying the presidential election prior to inauguration.
