Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representatives Eugene Vindman (D-Va.-07), Jodey Arrington (R-Texas-19), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz-09), and Glenn Grothman (R-Wis-06) introduced the Congressional MRA Act, a bipartisan proposal to send leftover congressional office funds back to the U.S. Treasury for deficit reduction.
Every year, members of the U.S. House of Representatives receive a Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA) to fund their official duties, including staffing, constituent services, and office expenses. Currently, unspent funds remain in the account without being put toward deficit reduction. The Congressional MRA Act would change that, requiring all unused MRA dollars at the end of the fiscal year to be returned to the Treasury.
“Our national debt has reached levels that threaten the prosperity of future generations. Tackling that challenge requires fiscal discipline at every level of government,” said Vindman. “This bill makes sure that even small amounts of unspent funds are not wasted but instead go back to the Treasury to reduce the deficit and pay down the debt. It’s a commonsense step toward restoring fiscal responsibility in Washington.”
