WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Representative Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) released the following statement ahead of today’s vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on the so-called ‘deal’ passed by the U.S. Senate.
“As an ethics attorney, former U.S. Army JAG, and fighter for the Seventh District – I am a hell no on today’s vote,” said Vindman. “This budget is an insult to the American people. It does not address the healthcare affordability crisis, does not sufficiently protect federal workers, does not adequately support veterans affected by toxic burn pits, and does not stop the rampant chaos, cruelty, and unprecedented corruption from the rubber-stamp Republican party.”
This budget will leave Americans without proper support, including:
- 22 million people across the county now face an impossible choice between astronomical healthcare costs or no coverage at all. Reports show monthly premiums more than doubling if the ACA premiums are not extended, including folks across Virginia.
- Federal workers who received zero protections past the end of this proposed continuing resolution on January 30. President Trump and his rubber-stamp Republicans illegally fired federal workers and should be held to account.
- Leaving veterans without clarity or coverage. Republicans did not fully fund the PACT Act and will limit how many vets can receive this critical care. This is indefensible.
- Constant chaos and corruption. Senate Republicans added a line to this amendment that would allow senators to sue the federal government if their data is obtained without being notified. The American public does not get such special treatment, and Senators should not be an exception.
