WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) released the following statement after voting to pass legislation that would impose sanctions on Russia.
“Ukraine’s national security is directly linked to America’s national security. Before what is likely to be a tough winter, I am proud to vote for the most serious sanctions package on Russia since this unprovoked war of aggression began.
“Putin will only back down when there are consequences for his actions. By targeting the revenue and key industries that help sustain Russia’s war, we will increase pressure on the Kremlin while continuing to stand with our Ukrainian allies.
“The legislation we voted on today is not perfect, but it is a vital step in ending the war, supporting Ukraine, and standing up for America’s national security. The last thing we want is America’s young men and women fighting and dying in Europe in another major war, and stopping Russia in Ukraine is key to curtailing Putin’s aggressive impulses.
“After recently returning from a Congressional Delegation to Ukraine, I know they need our support now more than ever before.”
