Vindman Hears from More Than 780 Virginians in Support of His Legislation to Ban Members of Congress from Lobbying after Leaving Office

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) is leading the congressional effort to ban members of Congress from lobbying after they leave office after hearing from more than 780 Virginians through a district-wide survey. The survey asked constituents whether they believe elected officials should be allowed to become lobbyists after leaving office.

“The message from Virginians is clear: public service should be about serving the people — not cashing in after leaving office. My constituents overwhelmingly believe members of Congress shouldn’t be able to turn around and become lobbyists,” said Vindman. “We need to restore trust in government by ensuring elected officials are accountable to the people they represent, not future employers. This is about putting integrity ahead of profit.”

Below are responses submitted by Virginia’s Seventh District residents who took the survey:

—

“There needs to be significant reforms with lobbying. Congress needs to serve the people and not special interests.” — Daniel, Spotsylvania

“No one should profit from service in the political arena.” — Eden, Caroline

“This is a no-brainer. Members of Congress are taking advantage of a system that a huge majority of the people they represent have no access to.” — Warren, Orange
